David De Vito's got talent
THE rest of Australia has just found out what Warwickites have known for years – David De Vito is a star.
The performer appeared on the Australia’s Got Talent TV show for a third time on Tuesday night and locals were watching and cheering as the singer belted out Nessun Dorma to a standing ovation by the live audience.
Mr De Vito has plenty of fans throughout the Rose City after performing in the regional centre a number of times with solo shows.
He has also performed on the Warwick Carols by Candle Light more than once.
Mr De Vito said the Australia’s Got Talent experience had been sensational.
“It’s everything I have ever dreamed of, to have the opportunity to shine in front of millions of people,” he told the Daily News.
He said the highlight of the whole experience was the fact that so many people were being exposed to opera.
“This is one of Australia’s top rating shows,” he said. “Just to have people who wouldn’t otherwise be attracted to this style of music, it’s great.”
With voting for the next round closing at 12pm yesterday, Mr De Vito said there was nothing left to do but wait.
“It’s a different kind of nerves now,” he said.
“You just have to wait and hope you get the call from the show’s producers saying you have made it.”
He said despite his new-found national success, he hoped to get back to Warwick some time this year.
“It’s such a beautiful place and that’s where my love of Warwick started,” he said.
“But in any town, what makes it is the people and the people of Warwick are so welcoming,” Mr De Vito said.
David De Vito is based at the Gold Coast.
His mother was a Neapolitan Opera singer.
