OUR THOUGHTS: Thanks to our boys and girls in blue
IT IS great to see some of Warwick's finest honoured for their dedication to the people of our community.
Being a police officer is surely one of the toughest professions and one of the most undervalued and under appreciated.
During my time as a journalist I have reported on officers being spat on, punched, kicked, bitten, stalked and threatened.
All while simply trying to do their job and keep community members like me and you safe from those who disregard the laws of our society.
The boys and girls in blue face the very real threat of being injured or killed each day they pull on their uniform.
There aren't too many of us who can say we know what that is like.
Yesterday highlighted just how real that threat is, with a long-serving Warwick cop subjected to a reprehensible attack that ended with a man being charged for allegedly spitting in his face and threatening police with a shard of glass.
While police will never be free of the potential for danger in the line of duty, we can all take some time to appreciate the fact our policemen and women are placing themselves on the frontline every day.
We are all able to enjoy the freedoms and privileges of this country thanks to those working to uphold our laws.
Thank you all for your service.
