TAKE an ordinary space, and inject some life into it.

That's the mission of a team of Toowoomba artists, who presented a weekend blitz of cultural events known as Animating Spaces.

Interactive art event Real Time Your Time and outdoor project Up the Creek kicked off the weekend.

The third event was Biograffiti, which had four street artists transforming a CBD laneway with a giant mural, inspired by the stories of local young people.

Animating Spaces Toowoomba community coordinator Alex Stalling said the city was beginning to flourish as a creative destination.

"The three events animated three different spaces all with the intent for the Toowoomba community to engage with their public spaces in a different light.

"People stayed, engaged and asked a lot of questions about why these events were happening, and if there would be more.

"On a larger scale in the arts sector Toowoomba definitely has a 'watch this space' sticker on it."

What is Animating Spaces?

- Biograffiti had four street artists creating a massive new work for an overlooked laneway over two days. The artists developed their imagery from stories of local youths collected in a public workshop.

- Up The Creek transformed an inaccessible bank of Gowrie Creek into a public picnic area, using found objects from the creek.

- Real Time Your Time zoomed in on everyday passers-by, capturing real-live interactions in a public space and subsequently projecting them on the big screen building backdrop.
