Over 40s vie for win at Redbank Plains
WANTED: A large rock at the top of Cunningham's Gap on which to sit the over 40s premiership trophy in the Queensland Christian Soccer Association.
With six of the 13 players in the team from west of the Great Dividing Range, the boys from Warwick may be able to claim the trophy for at least part of the year.
But all that is academic - there is a grand final to be won tonight when their team Blackstone United plays Bulimba in the grand final at Redbank Plains.
"We will go into the final as underdogs as we have one win in three games against Bulimba this season," team member Derek Kane said.
"The Warwick contingent adds a bit of steel to the midfield and backline. Bill Manwaring has scored three goals in the past two games."
Last Friday, the score in the preliminary final was 0-all at halftime against St Catherine's before Manwaring scored an early goal in the second half and another 15 minutes from time for a 2-0 win.
Manwaring travels to Ipswich each Friday with fellow Warwick Wolves Team of the 25 Years member Stephen Gray. Kane, Bruce Greenaway and Peter Darton have all played for Warwick and coached juniors.
The sixth member from west of the range is Warwick junior referee's co-ordinator John Maiore who has moved to Warwick in recent years.
