Pace bowler returns for Warwick match of the round

CRICKET: Jack Breen will play his first game in the Condamine Cup this season when he lines up for Wheatvale against Maryvale Condamine in the Sunday game at Slade Park this weekend.

Breen has had work commitments on some Saturdays this season, so is yet to bowl a ball.

"I am looking forward to a game,” he said.

Jack is upbeat about the young players coming through at Wheatvale.

"Mitch Watson is a pace bowler who is pretty quick and hits the deck hard,” Jack said.

He is impressed with the accuracy of off-spinner Riley Doherty.

"Riley can turn the ball if the wicket suits,” Jack said.

"He has a lot of potential.”

He is also impressed with the skills that Queensland Country women's representative Carly Cooper brings to the team.

"She can bat, bowl, keep wickets and field well,” he said.

"Carly keeps all the blokes honest and we are happy to hear when she makes a representative team.”

He is keen to bowl in tandem with his younger brother Jimmy.

"I try to keep it tight at one end and Jimmy takes the wickets at the other,” Jack said

Jimmy took one wicket last weekend before the rain came.

There are two sides to every game and Jack nominates Jason Steketee and Scott McLennan as the two Maryvale players his side will have to watch.

"We will have to get Jason out early when he hits a few in the air,” Jack said.

"Once he is set, he can put on a lot of runs and is almost unstoppable. I don't like bowling or batting against Scott McLennan.

"He can hang around a long time with the bat, and when he is bowling Scott is hard to get away due to his accuracy.”

Wheatvale is keen to record its first on-field win for the season.

The side from the districts west of Warwick has a loss to Colts and a win by forfeit so far this season.

Jack has nominated Warwick Hotel Colts as one of the teams to beat this season.

In Saturday games, two of the form teams from Round5, Warwick Hotel Colts and Redbacks, will play at Slade Park.

Colts batted badly in Round 4 but still won with a score of 92 and they improved dramatically in the batting department in Round 5.

Redbacks have recruited well and are especially strong in batting.

The Railway Hotel Rascals will be at home to Sovereign.

After being 6-93 when rain stopped play last weekend, Sovereign will be looking for some bigger scores from its upper order.

The team's top three scored between 20 and 23 at the weekend but no one went on to a half century.

Inglewood is at home to Allora and the early wicket of opener Gavan Scheiwe from the Allora team will be a key to success for the home team.

Round 7

November 25-26

Sovereign v Rascals - Allora on Saturday; Inglewood v Allora - Inglewood on Saturday; Colts v Redbacks - Slade Park on Saturday; Maryvale v Wheatvale - Slade Park on Sunday.
