Pair back to parkrun after amazing success
RUNNING: After running 84.4km between them last weekend, mother and daughter Annie Bradford and Kym O'Leary will take it easy on Saturday.
They will be back on home turf, Warwick parkrun, for a leisurely 5km run.
Last year, Annie ran all five legs of the Pentath-run and Kym ran four.
At the weekend, mother and daughter each ran all five legs, the marathon distance of 42.2km.
Don't ask Kym for her time in any events other than the half marathon.
"The biggest thrill was to finish all five events under the cut-off time,” she said.
This year was Kym's fourth Pentath-run, she ran the half marathon in one hour, 53 minutes, in 2014, just did the 5km and 1500m in 2015 as it was soon after son Oscar was born and last year ran all events, except the half marathon.
She finished the half marathon this year in 2:09 and was happy with her time, especially as she, husband Shaun, and their three children were moving to a home they bought on the western side of Warwick a month ago.
"That was when I should have been training hardest in the run up to the half marathon,” Kym said.
"Mum did the half marathon in 1:55 and smashed all her times compared to last year.”
Kym isn't setting a target time for the half marathon next year.
"It is just nice to enjoy the experience and share it with so many people I know,” she said.
"Many have started in parkrun on a Saturday and are now doing all five events in the pentath.
"Carol Atkinson and Rebecca Shuptrine are two parkrunners who inspired me by doing all five events.”
More than 40 athletes from the Warwick area competed in all five events.
Kym expects a massive turnout at parkrun on Saturday followed a record Daily News Pentath-run.
"I often do the 5km at parkrun pushing a pram with son Oscar while Shaun and our daughters Charlee and Layla have a sleep in,” she said.
At the weekend, Charlee and Layla competed the 1500m, making it three generations in the one race.
