Rumours link Woolworths to Palace

UNCONFIRMED reports have emerged that retail giant Woolworths has purchased the Palace Hotel at the corner of Palmerin and Grafton Sts in Warwick.

The hotel was boarded up yesterday with owners Graham and Lynn Hyde and staff nowhere in sight and most of the stock apparently gone from the bottleshop.

The hotel's Westside retail liquor outlet was likewise closed.

The Daily News has attempted to seek comment from Woolworths but a spokesperson has refused to confirm or deny a purchase, with the rumour being it has been earmarked for a Woolworths-owned BWS outlet.

The hotel had been on the market for some time, having last changed hands in May 2007 for $2.1 million.

A check of Liquor Licensing Commission records yesterday showed the Hydes' licence had not as yet been cancelled.
