Women's fight hits street

SHOPPERS in Palmerin Street were in for a shock on Thursday afternoon when a group of women began fighting in Warwick’s CBD.

A Warwick Police spokesman said officers were quickly on the scene in front of the Criterion Hotel to calm the situation about 5pm Thursday.

“A number of people were involved in a disturbance and several people were assaulted,” the spokesman said.

During the fray, a 38-year-old Warwick woman was arrested and charged with three counts of common assault, one count of disorderly behaviour on a licensed premises, and refusing to leave a licensed premises. She will appear in Warwick Magistrates’ Court on May 18.

The police spokesman said CCTV footage was currently being reviewed in an attempt to identify other offenders.

“We may take action against those identified on the footage, but ask people to contact us if they have further information,” he said.
