Parents doing their part to save Warwick children's lives
A PARENT group has taken it upon themselves to ensure Warwick school children have the best possible chance in the water.
Warwick East State School students last year benefited from swimming lessons courtesy of fundraising efforts from the school's P&C.
Last year the group raised $10,800 to cover the cost of lessons for all students, and have reached a quarter of that figure already in 2018.
During a two-week period in term three, students receive 10 swimming lessons.
P&C president Mick Murdoch said it was essential for students to be given the opportunity to learn how to swim.
"Every child needs to be able to swim in rural and semi-rural areas,” Mr Murdoch said.
"It is an essential skill that all should have and need. With the hot weather, kids need to be able to cool off, as well as for their fitness and healthiness.
"It also adds so much fun, gets kids away from technology and enjoying the sunshine.”
Mr Murdoch said the students at Warwick East have benefited greatly from the introduction of the lessons.
"The kids are absolutely loving it. They look forward to it so much,” he said.
"Several parents have thanked us, and said they wouldn't have been able to attend without the support.
"Even the staff have said numbers have increased dramatically.”
