Darling Downs parish priest jets off to Paris
ST MARY'S Parish Priest Father Franco Filipetto is preparing to visit UNESCO Headquarters in Paris to take part in talks on business, media and education.
In the past UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) discussions have focused on issues such as the education of girls and women, cultural development and key problems concerning the oceans.
Fr Franco is set to join the long list of influential individuals who have contributed to the dialogue on central United Nations issues.
During his two weeks abroad Fr Franco will represent the Pure Learning College, a Toowoomba-based multi-faith organisation who teach morality, ethics, causality, wisdom, and science.
Pure Learning consists of Christian, Buddhist and Muslim members as well as people from other walks of life including the Chamber of Commerce and education institutions.
Fr Franco will present a talk to the Goodwill Committee on how to create peace and harmony in the community.
Despite never having been involved in United Nations discussions in the past Fr Franco seemed more than happy to represent the organisation in place of Bishop McGuckin who could not attend.
When asked what this venture will bring back to the local community Fr Franco said: "to a large extent we're not a multicultural community. The international aspect will be great for the cross cultural element that we've struggled with here".
