Lake Leslie Park operators address G20

TOURISM operators from across the world following the same journey as Lake Leslie Tourist Park owners Adam and Caroline Bennett will come together at an ecotourism forum in Brisbane today.

The G20 Sustainable Leaders Forum to be held at South Bank, will focus on the role sustainability will play in managing the development of the world's tourism industry.

The couple, who has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars ensuring the park is as eco-friendly as possible, believe every little bit of environmental work helps - no matter how small.

Mr Bennett said upgrading their sewage treatment plant alone cost more than $100,000.

They also run solar and water filtration systems on the 13ha property.

But the expenses do not matter to the Bennetts, who once lived on a central Queensland property with fruit trees and cattle.

"We want to get to that point where we get that green tick," Mr Bennett said.

"I think it's beneficial.

"We are just trying to do our bit for our environment."

Lake Leslie Tourist Park also has chickens to eat the vegetable scraps and the Bennetts often take trailers filled with items for recycling to the Endeavour Foundation.

Just this week they kept three bins of coloured glass, two bins of clear glass, three bales of plastic, two bales of cardboard and paper, one bale of aluminium cans and assorted scrap steel from ending up as landfill.

Although the Bennetts always remind guests when they are checking in at the popular water and fishing spot about 12km west of Warwick about their environmentally-friendly practices, they find most people adhere to the rules without any encouragement.

Mr Bennett said about 98% of clients put their rubbish away and ensured their area was clean.
