Parking at a premium for busy weekend in Warwick
PARKING was at a premium in the Warwick CBD yesterday as travellers from near and far headed to the town for the first weekend of Jumpers & Jazz in July.
Residents were out in force and patrons were checking out the trees, the eateries, the old cars and taking in plenty of entertainment.
One of the nicest moments of the weekend for me was seeing a woman bring a cup of coffee, or was it tea, for Jodie Bevan, from Memphis Movers.
I caught up with a lot of visitors from Toowoomba. The reality is it is an easy day trip from Toowoomba to the Southern Downs and that is a golden area for us from a tourist perspective.
There was a rodeo, motor racing and motocross in keeping with Warwick's reputation as the Horse Power Capital of Australia.
The first weekend of J&J capped off an outstanding week of tourism for the Southern Downs, with Stanthorpe the focus point of the nation with the snow.
Isn't it great! The cold weather and snow is back, which could be an indication that the planet is not warming up quite as much as we thought. We need the cold weather for tourism but also the fruit that the Granite Belt is so famous for.
As for Warwick, may the next week of J&J go as well as the start and thanks a thousand to all the volunteers who make it happen.
