Parnell 'gone' moments after hit

A FORMER Brisbane Broncos junior player was "gone" moments after being punched in the head last year, his friends have told a Brisbane court.

Todd Parnell, 22, died after he was assaulted at a 21st party at Bribie Island Warrigals League Club, north of Brisbane, on July 26 last year.

At a committal hearing for Wally James Hung, the man accused of his murder, Brisbane Magistrates Court heard Mr Parnell had been involved in a fight with another man seconds before he received a fatal blow to the head.

Giving evidence this morning, 19-year-old Yolanda McKewin said she had been standing about five metres away from Mr Parnell when she saw him get hit and crash to the ground.

"He just fell down. We tried to do some CPR but it didn't work, he was already gone," she said.
