Partnership offers juniors chance to play in Warwick

WARWICK juniors will no longer need to travel to Toowoomba to play rugby union, after a partnership was struck between the Warwick Water Rats and Scots PGC.

Previously, the only way for juniors to play rugby union in Warwick was if they attended Scots PGC.

With the new partnership, the Water Rats will be able to offer under-8s, 10s, 12s, 14s, 16/17s and open grades.

"It's the first time the club has had teams to accommodate players in their teens, that I know of," Warwick Water Rats president Neil McCosker said.

"Hopefully a lot of the juniors will stay in Warwick now, rather than driving to Toowoomba to play.

"Hopefully it will bring a few more kids into the game - there were a few cases where a parent played rugby union but their kid played league simply because there was nowhere for them to play in Warwick.

"This is awesome, it's huge news for the town."

Training will be held each Thursday at Briggs Oval at 3.30pm, while a sign-on will be held at Risdon Oval on Saturday February 21 at 11am.
