Passerby to the rescue as car plunges into Springfield Lake

A PASSERBY jumped into the Springfield Lake to rescue a woman and child after their car plunged into the water.

Emergency services arrived at Springfield Lakes Boulevard just before 8.30am after reports of a car crashing into the lake.

A woman and young girl were rescued from the car by a passerby before it became submerged.

The car occupants were not seriously injured in the accident and were taken to Ipswich Hospital for treatment.

Ipswich District Inspector Keith MacDonald said the accident could potentially have been more serious.

"It could have been pretty serious but in the end it turned out pretty good for everyone," he said.
