Race patrons rug up in style
IN TRUE Southern Downs racing fashion, the weather was cool but spirits were high for the Repco Ladies Day race meet at Allman Park on Saturday.
Fashionistas showed how to rug up in style, with multiple layers and jeans proving a good choice of clothing.
Warwick Turf Club vice-president Garry Adcock said the meet had been a successful one and acknowledged the support of the sponsors.
“We’ve got good support from Harvey Norman, Repco, Roulston Builders and Carey Bros Meats,” he said.
“The ladies have come in their lovely outfits and everyone’s ready for a good day.”
Mr Adcock said he was satisfied with the number of patrons considering the eventful weekend.
“Also, with the weather not being its best, I’m pleased with how many have turned out,” he said.
“We don’t get a choice with our race days – we have days allocated to us by Queensland Racing.
“So all things considered it’s a good turnout.”
The weekend meet was the first time the turf club held wine tasting and Mr Adcock said he hoped to do it again.
Among those frocking up for the ladies day were sisters Kat and Joyce Batterham and friend Mel Warmington, who each considered warmth a priority.
“I’m wearing two jackets,” Joyce said. “It will be enough to get me through before the alcohol blanket kicks in.”
