Peak karting coming our way with Junior Top Guns Meeting
KARTING: More than $18,000 in prizes will be on offer at the Queensland Junior Top Guns Meeting at Sandy Creek Raceway on September 26-27.
The meeting is being promoted by the Warwick Karting Club and has attracted entries from as far as Western Australia.
Club president Peter Lane said two drivers from across the Nullarbor would make the trip east for the meeting.
"We expect drivers from all states," Lane said.
"Prizes are up in value by $10,000 since last year when we attracted more than 90 drivers.
"Some of the most promising young drivers in Australia will be in action.
"Most of the V8 Supercars drivers started in karts."
The club is aiming for 130 nominations.
Racing will be in eight classes, from the less experienced cadet 9 P-platers to the most experienced drivers in junior max and junior clubman.
Juniors in karting are under-16.
Nic Lane, Kevin Ryan and Seth Mathie are three of the Warwick-based drivers expected to compete.
The September 26-27 meeting will be the last junior karting meeting for Lane before he goes to seniors.
He will compete in junior max and junior clubman and is the current Lismore Young Gun Junior Clubman champion.
Practice will be on the Friday, qualifying on Saturday and racing Saturday afternoon and Sunday.
As with all karting meeting at Sandy Creek Raceway, there is free admission.
The club had 20 volunteers working last weekend to prepare for the junior top guns.
