THE Warwick Pentath-Run kicks off today with at last count a mammoth 400-plus runners registered to participate.
At this stage last year there were 371 registered, with another 140 entering on the day, so organiser Robert Stewart hopes this year’s event will breach the 500 entrant mark.
Yesterday school student volunteers donated time to prepare race bags and set up the hall in WIRAC for tonight’s dinner.
Registrations were taken at 5.30pm and this morning start at 5.30am outside WIRAC with the first starting at 7am.
Runners will head up Palmerin St before continuing the half marathon to Yangan.
Stewart said spectators were welcome to cheer along the athletes and there would be musicians positioned along the way to help keep spirits high.
The 2011 pentath-run is a warm-up for 2012, where the race will reach its 10th anniversary.
There are four more races, each with its own entry fee and participants can join at the start of each. At midday today a 4.6km run starts at Morgan Park, registration from 11am and the 5km run leaves the Darling Downs Hotel at 3pm.
A 10km event starts at Killarney at 7.15am tomorrow and a 1500m event will be held in Warwick CBD at 11.30am.
