People may flee if jobs cut
JOB losses across the Southern Downs, as a result of state government cuts, could see people flee the region once their position is terminated.
But Chamber of Commerce and Industry president David Littleproud didn't think there was reason to worry just yet.
"It will impact the community but not to a great extent because a lot of the government jobs here are frontline services and State Government made it clear they won't be cutting frontline service jobs," Mr Littleproud said.
He said it would be disappointing to lose any jobs in town and regional communities relied on people in those roles to add disposable income to the economy.
"We need to ask our government to reconsider taking these jobs from our community and take them out of Brisbane," Mr Littleproud said.
"I don't think it's the end of the world for us but every job we can maintain in our community will have a follow on effect."
Together Queensland organiser Dennis Mullins believes education, QBuild and community sectors will be next in the firing line.
