Perfect day to wet a line for over 55s
THE second Oak Tree Fishing Classic for the over 55s had to be postponed recently due to flooding of the Condamine River.
Instead it was held on Saturday which proved to be such a perfect day for everyone - even the fish were very obliging.
Oak Tree Retirement Village would like to thank their sponsors for the day; Horizon Property Group, BWC, Rainbow FM, Warwick Outdoors and Sports, MJT Lures, Andersens and Warwick RSL - their wonderful prizes topped off the day.
The largest carp caught on a hand reel was won by Sid Paskins at 50cm, largest yellow belly catch went to Joonas Rasanen, with three fish ranging from 32cm to 37cm, Bev Rickert caught the only cod for the day coming in at 31cm, whilst husband Reg picked up a prize for the 40cm carp he caught.
Young Mel caught two good sized yellow belly 34 and 37cm along, with a turtle to take out a couple of prizes.
It was fantastic to see some teenagers and younger children getting in and enjoying the fishing.
But they didn't stop there - they were wonderful, so polite, happy to share their fresh bait and only too eager in helping retrieve lines that got snagged on some of our older fishermen/women.
A credit to them and their parents. Thank you to Mel and Toby.
Rainbow FM broadcasted from the site and we heard some wonderful music wafting down to the river. Special thanks to Don, a wonderful volunteer.
During the day quite a few people also dabbled in flying the kites, while others had a game of totem tennis and James kept the barbie going until everyone had plenty to eat.
The registration money donated will be going to their local Alzheimers/Dementia Carer Respite Group.
From their registrations the day raised $121.25.
Thanks to all participants on the day who all made it so worthwhile.
