Perfect gardening weather on the way for launch of spring

WARMER days, vivid colours and earthy scents are now among us as spring is in the air.

Gardens across the Southern Downs will be waking up, ready for some tender love and care.

This weekend's weather is looking to be typical of spring, Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Adam Woods said.

"We'll see sunny conditions in the wake of a trough, which will be warming to 23 degrees on Saturday, an overnight low of 5 degrees will start off Sunday morning to then reach to 23 degrees,” Mr Woods said.

"They are perfect spring conditions - a little bit cool in the evening, clear blue skies during the day.”

Tomorrow and Sunday's weather will match the average September temperature in Warwick of 23.5 degrees.

Mr Woods said there would be some slight winds, which shouldn't get in anyone's way.

"The winds on Saturday will be a western-northwesterly wind, where Sunday we are seeing lighter, cooler southwesterly winds,” he said.

The Bureau of Meteorology has released its spring outlook which highlighted "drier than average conditions are likely for southern Australia extending up through NSW (west of the divide) and into central Australia”.

However there is a little respite for drought-stricken farmers with showers expected to come during the week.

"The first working week of spring may see a few more showers around the Warwick area,” Mr Woods said.

"Most of the heavier falls will be near the coast, as it's a coastal and onshore flow enhanced by an upper trough.

"Warwick is expecting less than 5mm of rain for Monday and Tuesday at this stage.”

With clear sunny days and a chance of rain to loosen the soil it's time to check up on the garden and plant, prune, prepare beds, and care for your lawn.

Five-year-old gardener Charlotte Gabriel loves digging about in the backyard.

"I like to use the shovel, you can pick up anything like dirt and rocks,” she said.

It's not too late to start your garden with the Daily News seed-growing kit giveaway.
