Perpetrator charged over property theft

POLICE have praised the public for helping bring an accused thief to justice.

On October 28 Wallangarra Police were alerted to the theft of a utility canopy at a Ballandean property.

Wallangarra Police Sergeant Alan Baker says the stolen property has now been returned to its owner.

“As a result of information received from members of the public a Stanthorpe man was charged by Wallangarra Police with the theft of a utility canopy from a Ballandean rural property,” Sergeant Baker said.

“The stolen property was recovered and returned to the victim.

“This result was made possible by outstanding assistance provided to police by members of the public.

“Initially, by a neighbour doing the right thing and keeping an eye on his neighbour’s property and having the presence of mind to record details of a suspect vehicle, and secondly, the response from members of the public who recognised the offender’s vehicle when publicised in the media and contacted Wallangarra Police with information.

“Assistance from those who contacted police is greatly appreciated and is an excellent example of the community and police working together.”

The 24 year old Stanthorpe man will appear at Stanthorpe Magistrates Court on December 11 charged with one count of stealing and one count of trespass.
