Rubbing shoulders with celebrities of the hairdressing world

WHEN Peter Tickner was cutting steaks at the meatworks and trimming his friend's hair on the side, he never dreamed that one day he'd be styling looks for Alex Perry, Lisa Ho, Sass & Bide and Peter Alexander.

But the senior hair stylist at Rockhampton's Studio Pedro returned from Brisbane Fashion Week on Wednesday, counting Jennifer Hawkins and Kris Smith among his clientele.

And for the first time he was honoured with the role of assistant hair director.

"I was the quality control, making sure the models were perfect," he said.

"It is hectic. You have about seven seconds to prep a girl before they go out on stage … just to polish it and make sure it's smooth with no flyaways.

"A lot of the looks were either really smooth and polished or loose and wavy with lots of volume."

Peter has styled hair at Brisbane Fashion Week for the past five years and says they try to top themselves every time. "It's really exciting, I enjoy the whole atmosphere," he said.

"I do Sydney Fashion Week as well, and it's more avant-garde."

Peter only found out about his role days before he left.
