Pies our snack of choice

DESPITE rumours to the contrary, the Rose City's love affair with the iconic meat pie is far from over.

A study has shown lollies and chocolates have overtaken pies as Australia's snack of choice.

Steele's Bakery owner Gail Steele said the findings were not representative of Warwick tastes and she had not seen any drop in the popularity of the pie.

"Oh, God no, definitely not - and we are only going to sell more as it gets colder," she said.

Mrs Steele said pies were popular with young and old, men and women, and could double as a tasty snack or a hearty family meal.

"If you pick up a pie, you are getting more value for money and pies these days are a lot healthier than they used to be," she said.

While the love is certainly not dwindling, people do like to mix up their snack.

Mrs Steele said there had been an increase in those who wanted to trade tomato sauce for the sweet chilli variety, and those who will forgo the traditional mince meat for the more unusual spaghetti bolognaise, or chicken and fetta pie.
