A PIG might not be the most conventional pet but for Sarah Rayner it is the perfect addition to the family farm.

Mrs Rayner said she had bought her pet pig, while her mum Richelle Lyngstad was looking to add pigs to their growing alpaca and cattle herds.

After spending four years raising alpacas on the Fraser Coast, the family recently moved to Deuchar to continue with their livestock operation, Ohana Alpaca Farm.

"There is a bit of a market for alpaca wool in Toowoomba depending on the quality of the fleece," Mrs Lyngstad said.

"They can be a bit cranky at times but they're a really good herd guard - they love to protect sheep and calves.

"There's better country for alpacas, and all animals really, down here compared to the coast.

"We're expanding the business to include pigs too now, but Sarah has always loved pigs ever since she was a little girl."
