Pilots set to soar in Warwick

WARWICK Gliding Club will host the annual Queensland State Gliding Competition this weekend.

This year has seen 36 entries of all ages, men and women. The entrants have travelled from far and wide, with one pilot coming from.

The competition is based on a handicapped speed around a designated course.

Les Miline, who helps out at the Warwick club, said the event was a great way to pro

mote the area, because the landscape around the Warwick region is unlike any other. The local club has over 40 members, with 25 of them flying every weekend.

Most members are local, but some come from as far as the Gold Coast to use Warwick's facilities.

"The pilots should reach up to 140kmh around the 300km course, which is an impressive speed," Les said.

The Queensland State Gliding Competition is expected to provide some weekend tourists for the local businesses.
