Pittsworth Show ready to roll

THIS weekend it's Pittsworth time for centre stage on the show circuit.

Another of the traditional country shows in the Darling Downs region, Pittsworth Show has built a proud history according to show society vice-president Jack Murphy.

"It's always very popular locally,” he said.

"And quite often we hear of people coming from all around to take part in the festivities.

"It's one of the biggest events of the year in Pittsworth so we like to make the most of it and put on a great show.”

Mr Murphy said the show committee didn't waste any time getting to work on the 2018 show.

"We started organising the day after last year's show,” he said.

"We have a heavily invested committee and including them and all the other helpers, we number around 150 volunteers from within the local community.

"Everyone from all the stewards to those manning the gates and parking attendants, kitchen and canteen staff, everyone has a ball.”

Even the local high school is getting involved.

"We have forged a really healthy relationship with them and have instigated some steward's programs,” he said.

"So they are learning the ropes, understanding how the show all comes together and this weekend, they'll be staffing the gates and being an integral part of the set-up for the show.”

Mr Murphy said the show would be great opportunity to see the diverse range of enterprise established in Pittsworth.

"There will be plenty of vendor stalls and trade site sites,” he said.

"We've also organised some pretty exciting entertainment, maybe some quirky things you might not necessarily expect to see at the show.

"The Aerial Angels for a start and the Big Top Circus.”

This year the show will feature a full NRA rodeo on Friday night.

"Our Friday crowds get bigger and bigger every year,” Mr Murphy said.

"The rodeo is a huge draw card and the live entertainment from the Whiskey Mountain Boys will go over very well.

"Then there's the fireworks on Saturday night, which we're marketing as a family-friendly night.”

Other events and entertainment include duck races, yabby races, horse trick riding from HLS Trick Riding and the Young Farmer's Challenge.

Teams of four will undergo gruelling farm work simulations in an attempt to be the first finished to claim a $1000 first prize being offered by Wagners.

Mr Murphy said the show pavilion was always a popular drawcard with the local crowds.

"You'll see so much in there, for starters there's art, food and cookery, school works, handicraft, photography and farm produce, which is down a little this year,” he said.

"There's always a pretty heavy showing from the schools.

"They are the of the Pittsowrth Show.

"And every year we see them get more and more involved with led steers judging and junior judging and junior parading.

"We are really excited about the Pittsworth Show this year, a lot of work has gone into it and there are so many people behind it making it a success.”

The Pittsworth Show runs from this Friday to Saturday at the Pittsworth Showgrounds.
