Parents and munchkins at new playgroup
AFTER a full week of baby talk, story time, meal preparation and play dates, there is nothing young mother Tina Rose wants more than downtime with people her own age.
Now the 22-year-old has the chance to do just that with PAMPA - Parents And Munchkins Playing Altogether - a new young parents' group.
"It's great, I won't have to be speaking gibberish all day," the busy mother of two joked.
Mrs Rose said PAMPA was a way to connect with other young parents, share her experience and socialise.
"If I can be there and help someone like me through what I have been through, that's great," she said.
"It's so they know being a young mum isn't the end of the world - they can thrive and they can survive."
The joint initiative with headspace, the new QCWA Fireflies branch and the Warwick Baptist Church held its first event last week and aims to give young parents time and space on their own as a place for children to play and parents to connect.
"Basically it's a place for younger parents to get together and develop skills - eventually the group will be able to run itself," headspace manager Sophia McLucas told the Daily News.
"Often young mothers find it harder to mesh at the beginning with established play groups."
As the size and amount of young families in Warwick continues to grow, so does the need for an age-specific playgroup.
The get-togethers are held at the Baptist Church Hall, Percy St, Warwick.
Facilitators are Donna Angell and Kathy Payne.
PAMPA is open to local parents every Friday morning, 10-11.30am.
