Plans in pipeline for 22 room motel venture

INITIAL plans for a new 22-room motel have been approved by the Southern Downs Regional Council, the Daily News can reveal.

A spokesperson for the unnamed local company confirmed the multi-level motel would be situated on Albion St.

While the motel chain associated with the new business venture is still unknown, the owner anticipates construction will begin in the next 12 months.

"There is clearly demand for something like this in Warwick," the spokesperson said.

"This is a long-term venture in a stable town."

The spokesperson said he expected the motel would be of a four star standard.

Only in its initial planning stages, the three-storey motel complex will come equipped with a working bar and function room on the first floor.

"We plan to put in a roof-to- floor glass wall in the function room to look out over Albion St," he said.

An outdoor deck, a feature of the property, will be situated above the function room, along with a three-bedroom manager's residence that will occupy the remaining top floor of the complex.

A reception area and car park will occupy the ground floor according to the proposed plans.

The developer said the process at this stage has had a relatively "smooth run".

"We made a few minor changes requested by the council - we worked through them," he said.

"The project has been in the process for a couple of years however the wheels only started turning seven to eight months ago. At this stage I don't see it operational for at least 18 months."
