Players set to honour Anzacs

ON Anzac Day Australians stand together as they stop to remember the servicemen and women who fought and died for their country.

On April 25 players at the Barastoc Polocrosse Nationals will do just that.

Polocrosse Association of Warwick treasurer Robyn Fraser said the decision to hold the service came out of respect.

"This is an opportunity for young sporting Australians to appreciate what our soldiers did," she said.

"Our service will begin at 7.30am and we will use our Wall of Fame as the cenotaph.

"There will be 450 players from all states attending in their dress uniforms carrying flags but there could easily be 1000 people attending."

Warwick RSL Sub-Branch president and Vietnam veteran John Skinner said the branch was pleased to be asked to help.

"The polocrosse service will include a piper, bugler, chaplain and flag orderly and will last for about 25 minutes," he said.

The morning commemorations will be done by 10.30am and the first game starts at 12.30pm, a respectful time recommended to the competition.

Queensland men's player Cameron Shepherd, whose grandfather Joe fought in World War II, said it was good to see the polocrosse involved in Anzac Day.

"There would be a lot of people here with their own family connections to the war," he said.

Our service will begin at 7.30am and we will use our Wall of Fame as the cenotaph.
