Players to sit out Pakistan final amid security fears

CRICKET: The Quetta Gladiators will be short on star power when it takes on the Karachi Kings in Sunday's Pakistan Super League final due to security fears.

While the rest of the T20 competition has been played in Dubai, the Pakistan Cricket Board has stuck with its plan to stage the final in Lahore, where there were two bomb blasts last week killing 22 people and leaving over 100 injured.

Quetta players Kevin Pietersen, Luke Wright, Rilee Rossouw, Tymal Mills and Nathan McCullum, however, have refused to go to Pakistan.

"It's with a heavy heart I will not be coming to Lahore. I have a young family and for me a game of cricket is just not worth the risk,” Wright tweeted.

"I'm sorry as I know how much it means to you all and hopefully in the future the safety will not be in doubt to come play there.”

Rossouw, the highest scoring batsman for the Gladiators, also took to Twitter to confirm he would not be playing in the final.

"It's with a sad heart that I must announce that I will not be taking part in the final,” tweeted the 27-year-old, who has played over 30 one-day internationals for South Africa.

The Kings upset the Dean Jones-coached Islamabad in their semi-final to progress to the final after Aussie pair Shane Watson (8) and Brad Haddin (0) struggled with the bat in a team total of 82.
