Plenty of clubs boast 500 members this year
SPORTSVIEW with Gerard Walsh
HOW many clubs/associations on the Southern Downs have 500 or more members?
I am doing a bit of guessing but my guess is that football, rugby league, touch, golf, bowls and netball are six sports with the highest numbers.
While Warwick Wolves football has been around the 500 mark for a while, rugby league numbers are up since the introduction of league tag for girls.
The Warwick Touch Association is one the biggest growing sports in the area and has already reached 520 early in the current season. You can add on plenty of juniors in a Scots PGC competition ready to start again.
The Warwick Golf Club has more than 330 members and you can add golfers from Allora and Killarney as well.
Netball is strong and if you add the players in the mixed as well as open and junior winter seasons, I reckon the association would reach the magical 500 mark.
With action at six bowls club in and around Warwick, there are plenty of numbers for a sport where jack and kitty are two names which don't have to pay an annual membership.
Two sports with plenty of juniors are gymnastics and swimming and there are more.
Welcome to hear from any clubs, association with numbers of participants by email to gerardw@warwickdailynews.com.au. I rattle up 50 odd sports in Daily News Sporting Yearbook each year.
