Police continue inquiry into murder of Alexis Jeffery
THE man who police believe was the last person to be with Goondiwindi mum Alexis Jeffery before her death is "fuming" he was identified as a person of interest in the investigation.
A family member of farm labourer Robert Trebeck said her relative was angry that he had been identified as the person filmed on CCTV walking hand-in-hand with Ms Jeffery in the early hours of March 16.
Mr Trebeck was working on a property in the Goondiwindi region at the time but has since moved to Townsville.
The family member did not want to comment further, only to say Mr Trebeck had done everything in his power to co-operate with police.
Darling Downs district officer Detective Acting Inspector Paul Hart said Mr Trebeck had been in contact with police.
Det. Act. Insp. Hart said Mr Trebeck was a person of interest in the case, but not a suspect.
"He is the last person we know who was with her (Ms Jeffery) while she was alive," Det. Act. Insp. Hart said.
He said forensic work was still being done.
