Gunman dies at Inala siege

UPDATE: A gunman shot by specialist police officers during a stand-off in Brisbane's south has died.

The man had been holed up in his car armed with a gun at Inala since about 12pm (AEST), when officers attended an address in Gannet Street to conduct an enquiry on an unrelated matter.  

Earlier, as officers approached the address, the man brandished a firearm, a Police spokesman said.  

An emergency declaration was made for the area bounded by Comorant, Clipper, Brolga, Parakeet, Partridge, Wirraway, Kittyhawk streets and Inala Avenue.  

Specialist officers in full protective gear dragged the man from the vehicle and handcuffed him just before 4pm.

Paramedics were called to treat the man at the scene.

4:15 PM A man involved in a siege in Inala has been shot by police.

Police had earlier tried to use mobile phones to negotiate with the armed man who had kept them at bay for nearly four hours.  

The man is in a critical condition and is being treated by paramedics.

3:15 PM: Specialist police are negotiating with a man armed with a gun in Inala. 

Police were on Gannet Street for an unrelated matter when the man in a vehicle outside the premises presented a firearm. 

An emergency declaration was made for the area bounded by Comorant, Clipper, Brolga, Parakeet, Partridge, Wirraway, Kittyhawk streets and Inala Avenue. 

Motorists are being asked to avoid the area

People living within the declared area are asked to remain in their homes and follow any directions given to them by police. 

2:10 PM: A man armed with a gun is keeping police at bay during a siege at Inala.

He is believed to be alone inside a parked car in a carport on Gannet Street.

SERT officers with weapons drawn have blocked the carport exit with an armed vehicles. They are only metres away from the vehicle.

Police were called to the scene about 11.45am and declared an emergency situation 20 minutes later.

EARLIER: An emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act has been made in Inala due to a police incident.

The declaration was made at 12.05pm and is in effect for the area bounded by Comorant, Clipper, Brolga, Parakeet, Partridge, Wirraway, Kittyhawk streets and Inala Avenue.

Police are asking people to avoid the area.
