Two men charged over knife-wielding carjacking incident

UPDATE 2.15PM: CLINTON Williams, 29, appeared in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court today in relation to an alleged armed robbery and vehicle theft in Blackwater last night.

Duty lawyer Grant Ireland represented Williams and made no application for bail.

He was remanded in custody until June 13.

His alleged co-offender is expected to appear in court later today.

UPDATE 10.10AM: Two men have been charged following the alleged armed robbery and theft of a vehicle at Blackwater last night that is believed to have involved a knife.

About 7pm a 37-year-old local man picked up two male hitchhikers on Rosewood Street.

When arriving at the intersection of Yarrabee Haul Road and the Capricorn Highway one of the men allegedly threatened the driver with a knife and after a brief struggle the men drove off in the car, leaving the victim on the side of the road.

A short time later the vehicle crashed on the Capricorn Highway near Duaringa after being spotted by police.

The two men fled on foot however were arrested a short time later in relation to these and other offences.

A 29-year-old man from Spring Hill and a 27-year-old man from Flinders View were charged with one count each of armed robbery, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, stealing, fail to stop motor vehicle, unlawfully take goods and two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Both remain in custody and are due to appear before the Rockhampton Magistrates Court today.

UPDATE 7.20am: TWO people are in custody this morning after an alleged hijacking on the Capricorn Highway on Monday night.

Police say they are still investigating the incident, which is believed to have involved two people hijacking a vehicle at knife-point and then crashing it about 7.30pm.

The two people were apprehended by police about 3am.


BREAKING 8.00pm: POLICE are hunting two suspects on the Capricorn Highway after they reportedly hijacked a vehicle at knife-point earlier this evening.

It is understood that the vehicle has crashed into a fence on a property somewhere between Duaringa and Baralaba around 7:30pm. 

Initial reports suggest the suspects have since fled the scene on foot and are currently being pursued by police officers on foot and in vehicles. 

A dog squad has also been brought into help catch the pair. 

Police warned all heavy vehicles not to pick up anybody on the Capricorn Highway and to notify authorities if they see anything suspicious just before 8.00pm.
