A 36-YEAR-OLD man has appeared in court after another man was allegedly bashed to death at Alexandra Headland overnight.

Kai Cummins, of Maroochydore, is charged with the murder of Nigel Hill, 38, in a unit at Club Beaches, on Alexandra Pde, late on Thursday night.

Mr Cummins, who was unshaven and dressed in prison browns, was not required to enter a plea during his brief appearance in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court.

Magistrate  John Hodgins said any bail application would have to be made to the Supreme Court.

He was remanded in custody to appear for committal mention on March 11.

Earlier police said it was alleged there was a violent struggle resulting in a number of head injuries to the deceased man.

At a press conference today, Detective Inspector Dave Drinnen said the two men were both known to police

He said it was believed there were a number of people at the unit last night but it was not known whether alcohol was a factor in the row.

Forensic investigators were combing the unit where the man died this morning.

Police were called to the Club Beaches unit complex about 11.30pm, where the man was found deceased.

One neighbour who lives in the same complex, said he came home at 12.30am to at least eight police vehicles and three ambulances.

He was questioned by police before he could enter the complex after he finished work.

Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area or have any other information which could assist investigators to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au 24 hours a day.
