Poll shows voter support for Coalition still sitting at 56%

SUPPORT for both major political parties has remained about the same for the past four weeks, an Essential poll of voting intentions revealed on Monday.

The survey of more than 1800 Australians showed the two-party preferred vote remained at 56% for the Coalition and 44% for Labor.

While it marked a 1% rise for the Opposition, the change was still within the margin of error, and was relatively steady on results going back more than a month.

The poll showed support for both Labor and Liberal parties each fell 1% to 33% and 48% respectively in the past fortnight.

It also showed a minor surge in the vote for the Nationals, up 1% to 4% of the overall voting intention.

The Greens were holding steady at 9% while support for federal independents went up 1% to 10% in the past fortnight.
