POLL: Where is the cheapest fuel on the Southern Downs?

BY THE end of the year the Queensland Government will have a mobile app that tells motorists where they can buy the cheapest fuel in their town.

Petrol stations will be required by law to upload their bowser prices every 30 minutes and this data will feed into the app.

The RACQ reckons it's a great idea.

"This is not going to be the silver bullet that brings the price of the fuel down," RACQ spokeswoman Lucinda Ross said.

"But it'll bring transparency."

At the Warwick Daily News we're keen to know where motorists can buy the most reliably cheap fuel.

Which Southern Downs petrol station has the most reliably cheap fuel?

This is not a scientific poll. The results reflect only the opinions of those who chose to participate.

"For people in Warwick, they will be able to see at any one time, what the fuel stations in their region are charging."

Motoring advocates, like the RACQ, hope people power will drive down prices.

"People can support retailers with lowest prices and hopeful force other stations to drop their prices," Ms Ross said.

The RACQ already tracks some petrol prices but its data is patchy.

It has no information about the 4370 postcode and even major centres have holes in coverage.

"We only have a certain amount of retailers that give us information and a lot of the independent retailers, who are often cheaper, don't provide their prices."

The state government wants feedback from consumers and industry about real-time fuel price monitoring.

It's calling for submissions and the cut off to have your say is September 17.
