Poms beware - Starc starting to fire for Ashes
HOWZAT with columnist Michael Bourke
AUSTRALIAN fast bowler Mitchell Starc was firing with the ball last week claiming eight wickets in an innings against South Australia.
This experience and confidence will prove valuable for the second Test against England under lights in Adelaide using the pink ball again.
The most pleasing thing was the reverse swing that Starc was able to execute and his ability to trouble good players like Travis Head in the match.
Opening spot
NICOLE Bolton will more than likely have to find a new opening partner for the women's Test match against England as Alyssa Healy moves down the batting order due to the workload required of a wicket-keeper.
The two openers vying to join Bolton appear to be Queenslander Beth Mooney who bats left handed and Victorian star Elyse Villani.
My preference would be for Mooney as Villani likes to hit the ball in the air too often and because Mooney is a Queenslander.
Racing tip
MY RACE tip for the Victoria Derby tomorrow is for the Chris Waller trained Tangled.
In the Melbourne Cup, I think that Almandin can go back to back after winning last year.
Warwick draw: Saturday 12.30pm: Colts v Rascals, Allora; Sovereign v Redbacks, Queens Park turf; Wheatvale v Inglewood, Slade Park. Sunday 10.30am Maryvale v Allora, Slade Park.
