Pots full of passion for Warwick craftsmen
WHEN it comes to pottery, there's nothing more local than the work of John James.
The Rosenthal Heights potter has dedicated himself to using local materials and old techniques to create his works of art.
For 30 years the talented potter has been fine tuning his skills, using local clays to create masterpieces.
He also uses ashes from different woods and crushed granite to glaze his pots.
"I've done a lot of experimenting with wood ashes," he said.
"I've always been interested in using local materials in my pottery."
Mr James built all his machinery as well - including his wood-fired kiln.
On Saturday the doors of his studio will be open wide, with the community invited in to see how pots are made.
It's been a while since he's hosted one, but the local potter is looking forward to showing off his works to the world.
"It's a good way to sell pots and make yourself known in the community," he said.
Entry to the open day is free, with refreshments available for a gold coin donation.
Mr James said all the donations would go towards cancer research.
"Cancer research is something close to me. My daughter has been through breast cancer," he said.
The open day will be held from 10am until 4pm at 99 Kurrajong Rd.
