Power pow-wows to be held
AFTER a walkout was staged at last month's powerline meeting in Warwick, independent facilitator Twyfords will host a series of public information sessions across the Southern Downs next week.
The sessions will provide information about the proposed Warwick-to-Stanthorpe 110kV powerline project, the criteria used to select the powerline route and how to participate in the decision-making process including the establishment of a community reference group.
Residents walked out of last month's meeting when they were told they had just eight weeks to make submissions about the powerline which would be built by 2016, a time frame from which Ergon Energy has since backed down.
But in an attempt to increase community consultation and participation, Twyfords has arranged meetings in Dalveen, Warwick and Stanthorpe from 4-8pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.
Facilitator John Dengate said the powerline duplication had received a negative response from the community, prompting Ergon Energy to introduce an independent facilitator.
"Ergon Energy has recognised it needs to work effectively with the community to find an acceptable solution," Mr Dengate said.
"It has agreed to reconsider the original four options and seek a real dialogue with the community to resolve the issue. Ergon Energy has agreed to fund and resource this process and to implement an agreed solution."
Residents are invited to attend the three meetings, the first of which will be held at the Dalveen Hall on Monday.
