Praise for all stars from Olympian from Allora

OLYMPIAN Matthew Denny flew home from competing in Melbourne to be at the Daily News/Warwick Credit Union Senior Sports Star of the Year awards dinner and was in awe of the success of all the monthly winners.

Denny, who was 19th in the Olympics in discus, shared the overall award with Matt Campbell, who won the Porsche Junior Shootout between the top nine young drivers in the world.

Campbell is in Germany preparing for his debut in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in Europe and the Americas.

"Matt has destroyed the opposition and is one of the biggest things coming into motorsport. I will be in Germany later this year and hope to catch up with him if we are in the same area,” Denny said.

"I appreciate the great support I have received from the community, athletics is not a moneyed sport and it costs a lot to go to competitions.”

Cliff Farrell presented the Warwick RSL Memorial Club "Club Person of the Year” award to Carly Cooper who represented Queensland in cricket and polocrosse and won "local” premierships in cricket and netball and volunteered in junior cricket. She played in netball and touch teams that came third.

"It is hard to see how Carly fits all her sport in, she is an asset to her own club and from a loving family,” Farrell said.
