Pratten devastated by tornado
10.36am ERGON Energy crews are continuing to repair multiple downed power lines in Pratten today after tornado-like winds devastated the township last night.
About 100 customers remain without power in the town and neighbouring areas north-west of Warwick this morning as fresh crews from Toowoomba and Stanthorpe respond to the widespread damage.
Warwick and Toowoomba crews last night progressively restored power to about 1300 other customers in the Sandy Creek, Condamine Valley and Pratten areas and ensured the remainder of the network was safe.
There are still a number of poles down, four spans of high-voltage and 10 spans of low-voltage power lines down and 12 services to be repaired.
The extent of the damage means an estimated time for the restoration of power to all customers is not yet available.
Earlier, power was restored to about 100 customers in the Warwick town area after a transformer at the corner of Cecil and Hamilton streets was damaged in the storm.
Those customers are being supplied from other transformers and crews will replace the damaged transformer later today.
Power also has been restored to about 80 customers in Yangan whose supply was interrupted due to storm damage last night.
While most of the damage was caused by the wind, a total of 1522 lightning strokes were recorded in the Southern Downs last night along with 30mm of rain.
A number of houses and sheds in and around the Pratten township were unroofed as the storm cell passed over from 7.10pm.
