Prepare for deadly fire season
THIS summer could have enough fuel to ignite one of the worst bushfire seasons in the region and residents need to be prepared.
Queensland Fire and Rescue Service Warwick station officer Dennis Burton is encouraging residents in the at-risk areas in the region to come to the Warwick station today for a Bushfire Preparation meeting.
“With the predicted bushfire season this year we would encourage all those residents who received invitations two weeks ago to come along and any other interested persons,” Mr Burton said.
“With the good winter rains we have had, it’s going to produce an abundance of fuel growth.
“As we can feel, it’s only the second day of spring and it’s predicted to be a hot summer.”
The meeting will address this season’s theme Prepare, Act and Survive by giving residents a complete understanding of how to deal with a fire threat.
“There will be information for people on how to prepare homes and themselves, what to do if there is a bushfire in the local area and sheltering in a safe place when there is a fire,” he said.
Mr Burton urged residents to take the opportunity to prepare themselves at the start of the fire season by booking a seat at the 2pm meeting. Call the Canning Street station on 4661 9655.
People unable to attend may contact the station to arrange a property inspection.
