Local services prepared if disaster strikes
VOLUNTEERS from the SES, Rural Fire Brigade and Queensland Fire and Emergency Service came together at Massie Aerodrome at the weekend for Warwick Air Operations training.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services state air operations co-ordinator Joel Gordon said the two-day event provided training for responding to disasters.
"We had 21 attendees from a combination of rural and urban firefighters plus personnel from the SES - everyone that fits under the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services," Mr Gordon said.
"We want to develop disaster management capability.
"During November last year it was a very busy fire season and the air base here was particularly active, with aircraft regularly filling up with water from here before heading off to help fight fires."
Mr Gordon said three to four training sessions were held statewide during the year.
"It's always good to have the capability to be able to respond to a disaster situation," he said.
"It's good to have a wide spread of organisations attending because the more people trained, the better you can respond to the situation.
"This training brings a good mix of skilled people during a disaster."
A variety of drills were practised, including loading and unloading a helicopter.
