Presents pouring in for appeal
THE Suncorp bank offices are looking distinctly Christmas-like this week.
Teaming up for the third time this year, the bank has been collecting presents on behalf of the Salvation Army to give to local families in need this Christmas.
Branch manager Leanne Ingram said helping out was Suncorp's way of giving back to the community.
"Collecting the items is something we're proud of," she said.
"If there are late Christmas gifts coming in, we'll definitely get them to the Salvation Army.
The branch has also put together a raffle for the same cause, with $50 of the prizes from staff and the other half coming from Suncorp Bank.
Salvation Army Captain Mark Williamson said he had been overwhelmed with the support for the Christmas appeal.
"There are 60 families in the vicinity that come to us seeking financial assistance, and in that is about 200 children," he said.
"Many of them wouldn't receive anything for Christmas if not for us and the community."
The present pile growing at Suncorp ranges from small bought items like chocolate boxes, to hand-crafted presents like dolls dressed in outfits knitted by the donors.
Anyone who would like to donate can do so at the Salvation Army depot on Guy St.
