President on a roll to back big golf club day

AS well as hosting President's Day with ladies president Christine Hankinson-Jones on Sunday, Russell-Sharam and wife Mandy are sponsoring the day through Mind Your Business which they operate in the Warwick CBD.

"I have a vision for the golf club, six months ago we were in the top six courses on the Darling Downs," he said.

"Now after upgrading of six greens, we are in the top two on the Downs.

"Now that the course has been upgraded, we hope to attract a lot more social players.

"Trainee professional Phil Covill is organising a pro-am in November after glowing reports about the event he ran in 2012.

Prizes for the event on Sunday will be vouchers to Warwick businesses.

Club member Judy Lester said she was even enjoying a game she had played for 22 years more since the green upgrading.

"I am finding the 12th and 15th quite a challenge," Judy said.

She is yet to hit a ball into the water hazard on the back and side of the 12th green but husband Bob admits to finding the new water hazard on two occasions.

Club men's captain Tony Kahler said he was hoping for a field of more than 50 for the President's Day four-ball, best-ball medley stableford.

Bookings for the time sheet event on Sunday from 7.30am are being taken at the pro shop on 4661 3664.

After President's Day, members will focus on the Warwick Real Estate Monthly Medal on May 3 and the Sporters Shield and Rose Bowl Day on May 4.

The shield day will be a four-ball, best-ball mixed stableford.
