Program to encourage leadership
ARE you interested in getting involved in the community?
Do you want to help organise youth concerts, youth week awards, skate tours, hip hop classes and much more?
If so, the Southern Downs Young Leaders program is for you.
The program was previously named Young Ambassador and Young Delegate program but is transforming for 2014.
Southern Downs Regional Council community services manager Sheila Stebbings said council is committed to supporting young leaders.
"We want to help young leaders address issues and needs in the Southern Downs," she said.
"Through this program we want to build partnerships across the region and develop opportunities that encourage participation.
"We want to ensure there is a diverse range of options for young people to have a voice and support to be more independent."
Mrs Stebbings said they are asking youth to apply for the program by November 15.
"This is a great opportunity for young people to identify exciting projects for our community," she said.
"In previous years youth have been able to organise hike challenges, art competitions and even BMX tours to name a few."
The program also addresses the more serious issues within the region such as delegates tackling social issues that affect young people including homelessness, drug and alcohol abuse and violence.
Youth must be between 15 and 25 years to apply.
