Public transport use increases

PUBLIC transport trips in Queensland have increased by more than half a million over the last three months compared to last year.

According to Transport and Main Roads Minister Scott Emerson, in the July-September quarter, there were 47.13 million trips on public transport across South-east Queensland - 640,000 more than the previous year.

Mr Emerson said one of his biggest challenges was reversing the decline in public transport under the former government.

"This increase of almost 1.4% is an encouraging start but there is a lot of work yet to be done," he said.
