Pulling the big guns out for major shoot
SHOOTING: Competitors from as far away as Townsville and Byron Bay will be in Warwick for the February shoot at the Warwick Pistol Club range in Rosehill Rd.
The club was formed in 1974 and this weekend's shoot will be the 34th annual February shoot.
"We have major shoots for the year in February and our Rose and Rodeo Shoot in October,” club captain Bob Campbell said.
Townsville shooter Griffo Bancroft has been in Warwick since early in the week for the start of the shoot tomorrow.
"The visitors who have come early are helping us prepare for the shoot,” Campbell said.
"We will use three of our five ranges for the competition this weekend.
"Anyone interested in joining our club in the future is welcome to the range to have a look at the action.”
This weekend's competition will be the last time at a Warwick open shoot the women's competition will be a 40-shot match in air pistol.
"International rules for air pistol will change in June to increase women's competitions to 60-shot matches like the men,” Campbell said.
"It is a good idea to have the men and women shooting the same number of shots and will make it easier for the club to run a shoot.”
There will be three service pistol matches, three 25m matches, two black powder matches and one 10m air pistol match.
Russell Murray, Ross Dossotto, Chris Mathiou and Nigel Gordon will be four of the best Warwick chances for grade wins. Gordon competed for Australia in the US last year.
Shooting will start at 11am Friday and at 8am Saturday and Sunday.
